Welcome to Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio and Quepos

One of the biggest attractions when visiting Manuel Antonio it’s without a doubt it’s national park. At present is not only one of the most visited parks in Costa Rica but it’s beauty is without compare. Composed of several trails and two of the most breath taking white sandy beaches, the park is a true tropical rain forest with lots of mammals and birds along the way.

Manuel Antonio is a true ecosystem surrounded by rain forests and lush mountains that literally meet the ocean. Its great popularity is well deserved as one of the richest natural places in Costa Rica to enjoy wild life, home of the titi monkey which is in risk of extinction, white faced monkeys, two and three toed sloths, lapas, colorful butterflies, a huge variety of birds, squirrel monkeys. All together there are more than one hundred different species of animals and over two hundred species of birds.

The blue waters of the cost line are well know for their reputation in challenging seasoned sport fishing enthusiasts. There is also plenty of fun for the occasional angler. When the sail fish tournament season starts, usually world records get broken.

Close to Manuel Antonio is Jardín Gaia, Costa Rica’s first Wildlife Rescue Center, who’s sole purpose is to adopt injured animals and return them to their natural habitat.

When it comes to lodging and dinning the choices are fabulous. They go from small boutique hotels to larger resorts most of them offering spectacular ocean views and international restaurants. Along the main road between Quepos and the national park you will also find plenty of choices to satisfy the most demanding gourmet needs.

Like some of Costa Rica’s natural attractions, Manuel Antonio also has it’s own town named Quepos. It’s a very small flat area surrounded by little hills, formerly a wetland, many years a go it was covered with large extensions of mangrove forest, which was all cleared off as a way to turn it into a human settlement as it is now.

Today, Quepos has lots of small tourist like stores and boutiques where skilled craftsman display their goods. There are also a variety of excellent sea food restaurants which offer sophisticated arrangements of the “catch of the day” dishes. A small marina besides the pier offers a choice of fishing or day trip rentals.
